How
Our Villa Will Suit Your Requirements - Some questions
answered.
Now
you have seen the villa and
checked out the location online...
How
would a holiday here best suit your individual needs?
Do
you enjoy the sun?
Well, you are looking
at the right place with an annual average temperature of 18
degrees and 2,800 hours of sun. The villa has a large roof
terrace to catch the sun, sun beds and a large granite table
and benches for al fresco meals and barbecues. Los Alcázares
enjoys an extraordinary climate. Daytime temperature can be
expected to be into the high 30s in summer and still in the 20s
in November. Most people still wear shorts through to late
autumn.
Do
you find the summer temperature a bit too hot?
The mid and low season
here usually has a beautifully comfortable degree of sun and
warmth which is such a welcome change when the UK is cold and
wet. Any rain never seems to last more than a few hours. The
evenings are a bit cooler naturally. In high season of course
the Villa has air conditioning and shady spots for a relaxing
siesta in the garden.
Would you enjoy
relaxing on the beach?
The beach is a 20
minute stroll. Once there, enjoy seven kilometres of sandy
beach by the beautiful Mar Menor - an almost landlocked lagoon
with shallow waters and blue flag beaches. The water is always
warmer than the Med and safe for swimming. There are sun beds
and shades to hire, beach bars for snacks and drinks. Public
loos are spaced at regular intervals along the prom.
Do you like to
drive?
It is easy to hire a
car. Pick one up at the airport and then it’s only a 10
minute drive to the villa or hire one for a few days from near
the villa and have a look around the area. No problem parking
near the villa, beach or the many supermarkets. Free parking!
Would you rather not
hire a car?
Why not have a go at
riding a bike again? We have four you can use when you have
checked them. (no helmets). The locality is free of hills and
many roads have cycle lanes. The town, beach, shops,
supermarkets and restaurants are nearby.
Would
you rather not ride a bike, but can’t walk too far?
The nearest facilities
to the villa are in Oasis centre less than 5 minutes walk with
shops, bars and restaurants. The local Urban Bus, normally an
hourly service, leaves from just up the road. It will take you
to almost all of the supermarkets, the medical centre, library
and market for around a euro. The stop near the Town Hall in
Los Alcázares is nearest to the sea 5 minutes walk away. The
Mucia, Alicante and Cartagena coaches leave from nearby stops.
There are numbers for Spanish and English speaking taxi drivers
in the villa.
What
about the children?
There is a play park
opposite the villa and a “Ball Park” play area upstairs the
Velas Mall. The water near the beach is warm and shallow. There
are loos and ice creams and drinks available on the prom. In
the Villa we have a selection of beach toys: bucket and spade,
beach mats, float and a beach tent for shelter. Our villa has a
gated safe area for play. We can arrange for you to hire
buggies and other children's equipment.
What
if they are a bit bigger?
In the main season
there are water sports available with pedalos, double bikes for
the prom and numerous places to snorkel. In the shopping
arcade is a ball park and an internet café. The play area
opposite to the villa has a basketball net, football pitch and
tennis courts. There are swimming pools in the area too. The
local eateries have all the usual pizzas, burgers as well as
more traditional fare. The CuitImagina is a combination of Art
and Science Museum with hands on exhibits to investigate and
explore to occupy the whole family in Ceuti.
If we have a couple
of hours of rain or we want a break?
In the Villa there is a
comprehensive collection of games, books, CDs, and DVDs. It
never seems to rain for long here though - the rain is mainly
warm too. Dos Mares shopping mall in San Javier has children's
play areas, cinema and also 10 pin bowling. Ikea in Murcia has
a crèche while you browse. Massive Toys’r’us in Parc
Mediterraneo in Cartagena.
Or your older
children want to be more active?
There are many golf
courses nearby. La Sucina can be reached on the bus, but if you
have a car there is plenty of choice including the world famous
La Manga. The Mar Menor hosts Kite surfing lessons including a
3 day course. There is Sailing, Sail-boarding and Watersking.
Thirty minute Microlite flights are available at nearby Los
Garranchos. A go-kart track is 5 minutes away, or how about
diving at the Marine Reserve at Cabo de Palos – Isla Hormigos
or on the wrecks.
Would you like to do
some sight-seeing?
The villa is ideally
situated for getting about. Travel by car to Mazarron,
Cartagena, Murcia or one of the many villages nearby. The area
abounds with historical buildings and museums. From the Church
Parish and Ethnological museums at St Javier to the cathedrals
and churches in the old cities of Murcia and Cartagena. World
War One submarine is at Cartegena. Coaches leave nearby for
Murcia and Alicante several times a day and from Alcázares to
Cartagena where there is a guided tour bus of the city. During
the summer a regular water taxi shuttles between Los Alcazares
and La Manga. Also boat trips to the islands of the Mar Menor
run daily.
Enjoy a Fiesta?
How about coming for
Easter Holy week where there is a ‘Berber Invasion’ in Los
Alcázares with a Medieval market, watch the San Pedro
theatrical performances or the 3 hour long procession in
Cartagena. The fiesta Virgen del Carmen takes place in San
Pedro in July. The Dia del Caldero on the beach at Los
Alcázares in October, where friends and families set up camp
and bbq on the sands to drink and eat the traditional fish
dishes.
On your own and
don’t speak Spanish?
The nearest bars in
Oasis seem to attract British people and those who speak
English from an International community. They follow the sports
on wide screen TV and host everything from live entertainment
and karaoke to line dancing. The Post Room in Mercadona plaza
is run by english people and has full internet facilities. The
paper shop in the Oasis Centre sells English Daily newspapers
and magazines printed in Spain.
Like to Shop?
The Dos Mares Complex
is well worth a visit for all sorts of things, clothes, gifts,
jewellery etc. There is a fish market at La Lonja. Local street
markets take place Monday opposite the Consum supermarket (run
by English people), Tuesday in Los Alcazares, Friday by the
Oasis Centre and Saturday behind Velas mall. A market is also
held on Sunday at the Autocine on the road to San Javier.
Enjoy good wine?

Chinese, Tapas-bars and English breakfasts, roasts and fish and
chips! For home cooking almost all tastes are catered for at
the local supermarkets with an especially fine selection of

butchers, Spar and Lidl.
Enjoy nature /
bird-watching?
The Park Las Salinas at
San Pedro del Pinater has a wetlands conservation and research
centre for exploring the local wildlife with a guided walk and
explanatory signs. It is a stopover for many migrating birds
including flamingos who feed on the shrimp in the salination
flats of the Mar Menor. The Nature ESpuna Trails host guided
picnic walks in the mountains and there are the famous
Windmills of Torre Pacheco to see. The coastal areas have
wonderful scrublands and the urbanisations are a riot of
flowering shrubs, flowers and palms. The seabed off Cabo de
Palos and the Islas Hormigas are a designated marine reserve.
Like to be a Culture
Vulture?
St Javier hosts a Jazz
festival. Cartagena a full programme of cultural events. There
is an aeronautical museum in Los Alcázares. In the Cathedral
in Murcia, a complex Gothic Architectural composition, are

century and a recently recovered Roman collection. There is a
Museum of fine Arts in Murcia.
Need a bit of
pampering?
Visit the local famous
Hotel Barneario Encarnacion Spa built in1904, on a previously
Roman site in Victorian splendour. The Spa has been
recently refurbished for treatments with Mar Menor mud to
eliminate toxic particles, boost circulation and promote muscle
relaxation. Invite the local nail technician to give you a
manicure and pedicure or visit the local hairdresser or
beautician. Bathe in the Mar Menor! The waters are classed
medicinal. The shallow water and high concentration of salts,
iodine and other important minerals in the water is recommended
to ease stress, rheumatic pains, sciatica, lumbago and
conditions of the skin and joints.
Want raving
nightlife, all night drinking, dancing clubs and kiss-me-quick
hats?
Sorry,
this we can’t do. This is a quiet family area! Try Alicante,
Ibiza or Majorca
Would you just like
to chill out?
The villa is very
comfortable, well equipped and easy to manage. Big bed, blinds
and no alarm clock. There is a coffee machine and toaster for
breakfast after a nice long soak in the bath, and a gentle
stroll to the shop for the paper and fresh rolls perhaps. Later
a leisurely ride to the beach for a swim, tapas, and a beer on
the promenade maybe. Then back for a Siesta in the Villa - or
up on the sun roof on a sunlounger, with one of our selection
of books. A cold glass of lemonade made from the lemon you
picked from the tree earlier and ice from the freezer. A
delicious pastry from the baker, later a meal out - or in….
Some delicious local wine of your choice from the Bodega and
some nibbles under the stars on the roof, smell the flowers,
listen to the chirrup of the cicadas ……?
